The next installment of the renowned novel-adopted game, The Witcher 4, recently shared an update on its development, with CD Projekt Red saying that it will begin 'full production' soon.

Its target period is by the second half of the year, and this gives an idea to speculators about when to expect the game to be released to the public in the future.

However, this is only an indication of CD Projekt Red's development, and it may not be the expected release window of the game.

While CD Projekt Red celebrates The Phantom Liberty expansion's success on its 2023 fiscal year earnings call, the company also revealed a new development for The Witcher 4 in an update about the game. First off, the company said that it will begin its "full production" of the game come the second half of 2024, with over 400 developers now joining the project.

Codenamed "Polaris," The Witcher 4 is reportedly in its early stage of production, and in the present, it is still in the conceptualization stage for the title.

According to ComicBook Gaming, this latest update is giving an idea of when to expect the game, expected to be a long wait for fans. In this speculation, the report said it took four years for CDPR to develop and release Cyberpunk 2077 from its production started in 2016 and dropped in 2020.

It may or may not take the same time as Cyberpunk, but this was the estimated ballpark for The Witcher 4, setting it to a 2028 release date. Additionally, the report noted that it may be meant for next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 6 and Xbox.

CD Projekt Red's The Witcher Franchise

CD Projekt Red's The Witcher franchise is regarded as one of the most successful games in the market. It centers on its adoption of the same-named novel from Andrzej Sapkowski.

The last mainline title was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Back in 2022, seven years after the last game, CDPR provided the world with an update to its next game but only said that it would be switching to the latest Unreal Engine 5

The developers did not mention what game this was meant for, and the entire industry and fans assumed it was for the sequel of the 2015 game.

However, a further update from CDPR confirmed the arrival of future games in the franchise, centering on sequels like The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6, but made no mention of The Witcher 4

While it was a vague announcement, it was received as an indication that CDPR plans to deliver a new trilogy for The Witcher games.

In their latest update, The Witcher 4 now gets its rightful spotlight and takes center stage as the start of a new trilogy for the game, to start its production this year, and a release date speculated for 2028, meant for the next-gen consoles.
