WhatsApp, the popular messaging app used by billions of people worldwide, is currently experiencing a widespread outage that prevents users from connecting and sending or receiving messages.

The issue appears to be global in scope, affecting the app's entire user base of 2 billion people.

WhatsApp Is Down; Users Reports Issues with Facebook, Instagram

The Verge reports that users started encountering problems with WhatsApp around 2 PM ET today. Many report that the app is stuck on "connecting" and unable to function properly. Despite attempts to send messages, they remain undelivered until the service is restored.

Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, has not provided any official updates through its status page. While other Meta-owned platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads do not display any issues on their status pages, users are reporting difficulties viewing recent posts or creating new ones on these platforms.

According to Downdetector, a platform that monitors website and app issues, over 80,000 problems with WhatsApp have been reported within a short period, indicating the widespread nature of the outage.
