Apple's AirTag is a revolutionary device designed for tracking lost items. Most commonly, people use it to detect their stolen luggage, keys, and other personal belongings. However, one crucial requirement before utilizing its tracking capabilities is pairing it with a compatible smartphone.

As we know, the Cupertino giant does not allow an Android phone and an AirTag to pair since they are not compatible, but there's an app that can do this job.

In simple terms, AirTags are exclusively compatible with iPhones, such as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro. The functionality of AirTags is limited to iPhones, restricting Android users from accessing this feature.

Locating AirTags with Android Phones

Despite the inability to fully utilize AirTags with Android devices, there is still a way for Android users to detect nearby AirTags.

According to Digital Trends, Apple has developed the Tracker Detect app which is a free app you can download on Google PlayStore. This app allows Android users to scan for AirTags and other Find My compatible devices in their vicinity. It serves as a useful tool to detect any potential tracking attempts without the user's consent, providing Android users with a means to safeguard their privacy.

For Android users seeking similar tracking functionalities, there are several alternatives to AirTags available in the market. One notable alternative is the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2, specifically tailored for Samsung users. This device offers comparable tracking features and can last up to 500 days before requiring a battery replacement. Additionally, it boasts a tracking range of up to 400 feet, providing ample coverage for locating items.

Aside from that, you can check other available options in the market. As such, there are numerous other alternatives from brands like Tile, Chipolo, Pebblebee, and Cube. These offer a diverse range of options, allowing Android users to find the most suitable tracking solution based on their preferences and requirements.

While AirTags may not be compatible with Android phones, Android users still have access to various alternatives that offer similar tracking capabilities.

By leveraging apps like Tracker Detect and exploring alternative tracking devices, Android users can effectively track their belongings and maintain peace of mind without the need for an iPhone.

AirTags Can Be Weapons Too

Of course, if AirTags are used for tracking missing or stolen items, they also have downsides that some users tend to neglect.

In our previous report, we stated that some researchers were concerned about the dangers of using Apple's item trackers. Since people can use it to stalk someone, it violates other people's privacy and safety.

An AirTag only becomes a dangerous weapon if it's in the wrong hands. For instance, a person can abuse his/her ex-lover by secretly tracking him/her. It can also be used to blackmail someone.

As researchers noted, this can have "grave implications" and these are the ones that people need to avoid since an AirTag is a double-edged sword.
