Apple's artificial intelligence-centered M4 processing chips are set to be incorporated into almost every Mac variety released by the iPhone maker, as reported by Bloomberg. This is a bid to boost the Apple Mac Line's sales via AI capabilities.

According to persons with knowledge of the situation, the tech giant, which debuted its first Macs with M3 chips five months ago, is already close to starting manufacturing of the next version, the M4 CPU.

Researchers Discover Unpatchable Flaw in Apple Silicon Macs—Is Workaround Possible?

(Photo: Wes Hicks from Unsplash) A new security flaw in the Apple M-series chip is discovered to be unpatchable. The Silicon Macs are not spared from being hijacked by threat actors with encryption keys.

According to insiders who asked not to be named because the plans have not been made public, Apple intends to replace every Mac model with the new CPU, which will be available in at least three main varieties.

The business plans to ship the redesigned laptops in late 2024 or early 2025. The lineup will include new iMacs, Mac minis, high-end 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and a low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro.

The new Macs are being developed at a crucial moment. Mac sales dropped 27% in the most recent fiscal year, which concluded in September, following a peak in 2022.

The computer line's income was flat during the holidays. With an M3-focused launch event in October of last year, Apple attempted to revitalize the Mac industry, but those chips did not much outperform the M2 from the previous year.

The M4 chip family consists of a top-tier processor code-named Hidra, more potent Brava models, and an entry-level model called Donan.

The upcoming macOS version, unveiled in June at Apple's annual developer conference, will be showcased by the corporation and its AI processing capabilities.

Apple's Latest AI Model

As the AI race continues, Apple continues to catch up as seen by the announcement of its newest system, Reference Resolution As Language Modeling (ReALM), which it claims outperforms GPT-4 in some areas. .

The ReALM system, according to the Apple team, is positioned as a superior product that outperforms current LLMs, particularly in processing particular types of queries. This means that it is not just an attempt to catch up with competitors.

The Apple team's report claims that ReALM's distinct capacity to decipher murky on-screen references and retrieve conversational and background data makes it stand out in offering more accurate answers to user queries.

Better than GPT-4

ReALM seeks to improve the accuracy of its responses by better understanding the user's intent behind a query by utilizing contextual clues from the user's screen and ongoing device activities.

Extensive testing against multiple LLMs, notably GPT-4, according to the researchers, has shown that ReALM performs better on some tasks.

Additionally, they imply that Apple intends to incorporate ReALM into its ecosystem, enhancing Siri's capacity to offer more pertinent responses. However, this might necessitate an iOS 18 upgrade for consumers when it launches later this year.
