New users on X could soon be met with a small fee before they can post, as Elon Musk unveils it is the "only way" to help stop bots from plaguing the platform.

Musk stated that to stop bot assaults, new users would be charged a tiny price. This was in response to an X account that reported changes on X's website.

Musk references techniques like CAPTCHA to support his claim that troll farms and current AI can easily get past the "are you a bot" security measures.

Elon Musk's X, Formerly Twitter, Plans to Hide Headlines From News Links — Here's Why

(Photo: JOEL SAGET/AFP via Getty Images) Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter, is gearing up to introduce a novel approach to presenting news links.

As Musk later added, the fee proves to be a non-permanent measure, and after three months of creation, new accounts can post without paying a fee while responding to another user.

As with many statements regarding the social media network, no information is currently available regarding the exact date on which this policy will take effect or the potential costs that new members may incur.

Forbes reports that Musk's fee is comparable to one that was imposed on new users in the Philippines and New Zealand in October of last year as part of X's "Not a Bot" initiative. This program required new accounts to pay an annual fee of $1 to post, like, comment, and engage in other activities.

X's Recent Changes

Less than two weeks have passed since X started the platform's bot purge, which Musk threatened to subject anyone in charge of bot accounts to appropriate legal measures. Accordingly, X alerted its users to the possibility of a drop in the number of followers they may have.

The announcement through X's Safety account made clear that the company intended to take a big, proactive step to remove accounts that broke X's policies against spam and platform abuse.

This endeavor will come soon after X has appointed new members to its safety team. Kylie McRoberts, a longtime X employee, has been named Head of Safety, while Yale Cohen, formerly of Publicis Media, has joined as Head of Brand Safety and Advertiser Solutions.

Kylie McRoberts, who is currently in charge of X's safety initiatives, has played a crucial role in strengthening platform safety regulations.

Her contributions include strengthening security features, creating an Austin Safety Center of Excellence, and improving the openness of moderation processes.

McRoberts will be in charge of a worldwide Safety team that will create guidelines and instruments to protect the platform and its users.

Faster X Community Notes

Additionally, this projected change was made only a few days after X promised to speed up the display of user-contributed information on posts with updates to its Community Notes feature.

As part of X's continuous efforts to improve the operation of its platform, an update has been released with the goal of improving user experience and combating disinformation.

The Community Notes scorer system has undergone optimization, which is expected to shorten the time it takes for notes to become displayed by roughly half an hour.

This improvement entails adding a prescoring phase to streamline the calculation process, especially the first matrix factorization.

The final scoring process works more effectively by dispersing computational tasks, allowing for faster and more frequent note displays without sacrificing accuracy.
