Problematic posters on TikTok will now see the company's iron hand as it focuses on a significant content moderation move to clean up its algorithm, restricting them from the 'For You' page. This means that if TikTok detects or receives reports regarding problematic posts, users who repeatedly share said content will be temporarily removed from the FYP's algorithm.

As part of the new move from TikTok, the company is cleaning the house and taking a more proactive approach instead of simply removing it or stopping its promotion on the feed.

TikTok Content Moderation: Problematic Posts See FYP Restrictions

TikTok FYP Restriction

The latest release from TikTok details an update to its Community Guidelines, enhancing more of the content moderation on the platform, which centers on problematic posts. The so-called 'problematic posts' are those that violate its Community Guidelines and content limitations, and accounts that repeatedly violate this will face a temporary ban from the 'For You' page.

We're introducing a policy to make an entire account temporarily ineligible for recommendation in the For You feed if a creator repeatedly posts content that goes against our For You feed standards. Their account and content will be harder to find in search. We will notify creators when their account has been restricted in this way, and they will be able to appeal.

TikTok For You Page Algorithm and Community Guidelines

The FYP is best known for being algorithmic, with TikTok recommending loads of content for a specific user based on their data, usage, interactions, and more.

Violating the new social media community guidelines would lead to a temporary restriction, gravely affecting the content creator's ranking on the FYP, especially if it was found to violate its terms and standards. Other offenses would merit an outright ban, centering on its Zero-tolerance policies on content.

TikTok and its Content Moderation

TikTok is known for its tailored 'For You' pages that depend on the user's algorithm and platform usage. Social media offers significant experiences and features to help deliver the best for its audience. Previously, the Chinese-owned social media expanded the STEM feed to the European region, promoting the massive educational content available.

Additionally, TikTok is known for facing a massive 10 million Euro fine from Italy's antitrust regulator for its alleged failure in content moderation for social media users. This fine highlighted the significant content found on the platform that gravely affects or has already impacted users on social media, particularly children, minors, and vulnerable individuals.

Other complaints against TikTok include children's safety on the platform and music rights disputes that put the platform in dangerous waters against regulators and several government bodies.

Amidst all of these, TikTok is now changing its Community Guidelines to promote better content moderation, which restricts a user from the FYP's algorithm should they be found posting content violating the guidelines and problematic.
