Tesla "eats" recalls for breakfast.

The American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer is issuing a recall for nearly 4,000 of its flagship Cybertrucks due to potential safety issues with the accelerator pedals.

The recall, outlined in a safety report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), affects all Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024.

AUSTIN, TEXAS - APRIL 15: A Tesla Cybertruck sits on a lot at a Tesla dealership on April 15, 2024 in Austin, Texas. Tesla is planning to lay off more than 10% of its employees as the company continues to see a decrease in sales, which began earlier this year.

As reported by NBC News, the new recall comes amidst a series of challenges for Tesla. Based on the NHTSA's report, the faulty pedals of the accelerator are to blame for the said issue.

Following disappointing company earnings and a decline in vehicle deliveries, the automaker announced a workforce reduction of 10%. Additionally, the company's stock price has seen a significant decrease, leading to concerns among investors.

Furthermore, the decision to halt the development of a lower-priced vehicle option in favor of prioritizing self-driving technology has further fueled skepticism about Tesla's future prospects.

What Skeptics Think About Tesla's EV Pickup Truck From the Get-Go

The Cybertruck, Tesla's futuristic electric pickup, has faced criticism since its launch. While it has garnered attention for its innovative design, concerns have been raised about its safety, reliability, and construction. Reports of sharp edges and rust spots on the stainless steel body have contributed to the vehicle's mixed reception.

Addressing the Accelerator Pedal Issue

The catalyst for the recall was a social media post by a Cybertruck owner Jose Martinez who experienced unintended acceleration due to a loose rubber cover on the accelerator pedal. The video was posted on his TikTok account.

The NHTSA identified residual lubricant used during manufacturing as the cause of the issue. Tesla has committed to replacing or reworking the accelerator pedal assembly at no cost to affected customers.

Timely Response from Tesla

Tesla responded swiftly to the reported concerns, with the NHTSA acknowledging the company's proactive approach to addressing the issue. The EV firm began addressing the accelerator pedal problem on vehicles in production and those awaiting delivery as soon as it became aware of the complaints.

Tesla Already 'Normalized' Recalls

In late December, Tesla issued a recall in almost all of its cars in the US. The company cited that there was a problem with the Autopilot feature of the select models.

Earlier this year, it recalled 1.6 million vehicles in China because of the same reason.

The following month, Tesla recalled 8,700 cars in the same country over concerns about its software functionality.

At the time, the Chinese regulators said that 1,071 Model S and X vehicles, specifically the models made from 2012 to 2024, were affected by the recall.
