Apple Is Working on iPhone's 200MP Camera Upgrade, Says Leak—Which Model Is Getting It?

Upcoming iPhones in the making are reportedly receiving a massive upgrade, according to leaks, and it is expected to feature a significantly more powerful and robust camera, including a 200 MP lens, which will enhance its capabilities.

Currently, iPhone cameras feature 48 MP lens that is already an adequate and effective tool.

A new leak shared on Weibo revealed that Apple has more upgrades in store for the next iPhones it will release, particularly with a focus on its cameras where a massive 200 MP lens upgrade is said to be coming.

This will reportedly be for the rear cameras of the iPhone, but it was not revealed if only one lens would be getting the upgrade or multiple ones would. The base iPhone features two and the Pro versions house three.

There are already expected upgrades coming to the iPhone 17's cameras, particularly as its front-facing lenses will get a 24 MP upgrade, which would be double its pixel count for clearer selfies or video calls.

On the other hand, the iPhone 17 Pro was previously rumored to be getting a new 48 MP telephoto lens, alongside other improvements to the device's cameras.

Which Model is Getting the 200MP Lens?

Each year, Apple upgrades the cameras on iPhones, despite not changing the pixel count, as the 48 MP lenses remained unchanged for several years. That being said, the latest leak claimed that Apple is working on bumping it up over four times in the future, with this rumored 200 MP upgrade.

The leaker did not reveal any specific models getting the 200 MP lens, but 9to5Mac speculated that it may be for the iPhone Fold that is expected next year, matching its premium price tag. Additionally, it may also be for 2027's iPhone which is the 20th anniversary edition of the device.

The world is waiting for the next generation of iPhones to arrive from Apple, with its annual release scheme making the public expect the iPhone 17 series to arrive soon. There is a rumored overhaul for the next-gen smartphones, particularly as the iPhone 17 Pro series is getting a reworked camera bar that will fill the entire upper rear part of the device with a round island that is similar to Google's Pixel.
