Is 'Marvel's Wolverine' the Next Big PS5 Holiday Hit? Rumors Suggest 2026 Release Window

It's going to be a hack-and-slash adventure coming for all Logan fans next year.

"Marvel's Wolverine" was originally announced in September 2021. Since then, we haven't heard any development from its developer.

Of late, the much-awaited game is set for a release window in 2026, according to a recent report. Since the official announcement, Sony and Insomniac have said nothing, but the timeframe fits with reports from the notorious 2023 security breach that released early versions of the game.

Impact of the Insomniac Hack on Development

The report indicates that "Wolverine" will be out following the beginning of Sony's fiscal year 2026; thus, the earliest it could launch is April of the same year. With an eye on the May 2026 worldwide launch of "Grand Theft Auto 6," analysts are inclined to think Wolverine is being positioned as PlayStation 5's holiday blockbuster title, MP1st reported.

The 2023 Insomniac Games hack created worries about disrupting Wolverine's development. The studio soon put fans' minds at ease by confirming that development was still going full steam ahead, even with the leak also revealing an as-yet unannounced Spider-Man spin-off focused on "Venom."

Early development goals projected 2026 as the release date for "Wolverine," and this new report upholds that Insomniac is holding to it.

Insomniac's Repeated PS5 Success

If "Wolverine" does arrive on its projected timeframe, it will be the fourth big Insomniac game of the PlayStation 5 generation, after "Spider-Man: Miles Morales," "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart," and "Spider-Man 2." Few have kept pace with Insomniac this generation, so it is one of Sony's more dependable first-party teams.

Aside from that, delays are always a risk in contemporary game production, particularly for broad-scale games such as "Wolverine." Nevertheless, Insomniac's excellent record encourages optimism that supporters won't have to wait longer than anticipated.

What About the 'Venom' Game?

Alongside Wolverine, it was also mentioned that there is a standalone "Venom" game in the making, now being developed as a smaller-scale project. Comparable in terms of scale to "Spider-Man: Miles Morales," the "Venom" game might come as early as 2027, although its scale could get bigger based on resources. "Wolverine" is currently the studio's priority, according to TweakTown.

A Holiday 2026 Showdown

If everything goes as planned, Wolverine will land near the time "Grand Theft Auto 6" disrupts the market. This implies that Sony is about to use the mutant superhero as its lead holiday title, something that would solidify PlayStation 5's grip on the second half of its life cycle.

While official gameplay information is still limited, expectations continue to mount. With Insomniac in the driver's seat, hopes are high that "Marvel's Wolverine" will bring the same cinematic action, emotional storytelling, and refined gameplay the studio's fans have grown accustomed to.
