‘Destiny 2' Speculations Claim Game May Be Ending Soon Because of Bungie’s Struggles, Interest Loss

Sony and Bungie may choose to end ‘Destiny 2.’

Destiny 2

Bungie may be at a crossroads now as speculations have claimed that the company could be considering ending "Destiny 2," its long-running first-person shooter game because of many challenges in the industry.

"Destiny 2" has had a rocky few years, with new financial information coming out of Sony leading speculators to believe that it may be getting axed to save the company from more losses.

'Destiny 2' Speculations Claim Game Is Ending Soon

According to ComicBook Gaming's report, the concern stems from Sony's latest earnings report and what it reveals about its relationship with Bungie.

Sony's fiscal year calculations show that the acquisition of Bungie has resulted in a $765 million impairment loss in a single year, representing more than 21% of the $3.6 billion Sony originally paid to acquire the studio.

An impairment loss of this scale means Bungie is now worth considerably less than what Sony initially paid for it, and that decline is directly tied to the performance of its games.

The problem centers on the significant drops in player count and engagements for Bungie's games, including "Destiny 2" and "Marathon," which directly affects the studio's value.

Because of this, the report says that neither game is doing much for the studio's struggles, and the much older one, "Destiny 2," which was released in 2017, may be the one to go.

Sony's Bungie Is Struggling, Loss of Interest in Game

Over the past years, "Destiny 2" has seen a significant drop in player count, and the company was not able to stop the bleeding or overturn its fortune despite its regular updates and expansions.

Among the recent ones is the "Edge of Fate" expansion, which has been poorly received by its community and led to a notable number of players leaving the game after it launched.

Similarly, while "Marathon" has garnered a notable following among players, it still faced significant struggles.

Sony's financial troubles with Bungie Studios continue to grow as they fail to solve their problems, most especially their decline in engagements on "Destiny 2," with no clear sign of overturning their fortunes.

Because of this, Comic Book speculates that this may be the end of the line for "Destiny 2," which is just a year away from reaching its first decade in the gaming industry.

Rumors of "Destiny 3" being in development had circulated before, but given the current financial reality at Bungie, those plans seem increasingly unlikely to move forward.
