Apple App Store Age Rating Changes Coming in 2026 For Australia, Vietnam

The new Apple Store age ratings in the said region will be available starting next month.

Apple has announced major updates to its App Store age rating system set to take effect on June 18. The changes will impact app classifications in Australia and Vietnam as governments continue tightening online safety regulations aimed at protecting minors from sensitive digital content.

The update is part of the company's global push for stricter oversight of apps, particularly social media platforms, mobile games, and services that may expose younger users to mature or potentially harmful content.

In Vietnam, Apple will implement a new region-specific classification system aligned with Article 38 of Decree 147. Under the updated rules, developers must assign apps one of four age ratings: 00+ (all ages), 12+, 16+, or 18+.

These ratings will be displayed directly on each app's product page within the Vietnam App Store, giving users clearer visibility into content suitability before downloading.

Apple confirmed that developers will receive updated guidelines through App Store Connect, along with detailed instructions to help ensure compliance with the new requirements.

The goal of the system is to improve transparency and ensure app classifications better reflect local laws and cultural content standards.

Australia Removes 15+ Rating Category

In Australia, Apple is removing the existing 15+ age rating category entirely. Apps that currently fall under this classification will be automatically reassigned to 16+ if they meet specific content criteria.

According to 9to5Mac, this includes apps featuring unrestricted web access, frequent medical or health-related content, and loot box mechanics commonly found in mobile gaming.

The updated ratings will appear across Australian App Store listings, providing users with clearer and more consistent guidance when selecting apps.

Developers Urged to Update App Information

Apple has advised developers to review and update their age rating questionnaire responses in App Store Connect to ensure compliance with the new regional standards.

The company warned that inaccurate classifications could affect app visibility or lead to distribution issues in affected markets.
