It is now being reported that most of Bungie's staff did not know about the decision to discontinue active development for "Destiny 2."
This development comes one week after Bungie officially confirmed that will no longer provide support for the game following one last update next month.
Bungie Staff Caught Unaware by 'Destiny 2' Decision
Per a report by Forbes, sources have claimed that the "vast majority of Bungie did not know about 'Destiny 2' support being dropped right up until it was publicly announced."
Those who knew about the decision reportedly include staff members who have already started working on the final content for "Destiny 2," which will be released on June 9.
The Forbes report also claims that developers who have already transitioned to "Marathon," Bungie's latest game, is likewise aware of the decision.
'Marathon' to Get More Resources
The decision to end support for "Destiny 2" was reportedly made earlier this year, but the announcement was not made until last week.
The announcement shocked both fans of the game and the industry, and many have expressed their disappointment with Bungie's decision.
IGN notes in its reports that fans have already started a petition for "Destiny 3," which has made its rounds online. At the time of the report's publication, the petition already garnered 200,000 signatures.
It should be noted, however, that no plans have been made for "Destiny 3." Ever worse news is that Bungie is reportedly planning to conduct layoffs following the announcement on "Destiny 2."
According to Rock Paper Shotgun, Sony is now focusing on allotting more resources to "Marathon" despite it not meeting the company's expectations. Still, the game is being given more time to find its rhythm.
It is also believed that more "Destiny 2" devs will be moved to "Marathon."
'Destiny 2'
First released as a paid title in 2017, "Destiny 2" is, at present, a free-to-play online first-person shooter and the sequel to "Destiny," which was released in 2014. The game's official launch trailer can be viewed below.
"Destiny 2" offers player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game types. Players take on the role of a Guardian, whose task is to protect.
Guardians wield a power called Light to protect humanity from different alien races as well as a threat known as Darkness.
Through the years, the base game has been bolstered with multiple expansions that provided fans with more content.
One of which is "The Witch Queen," and you can watch the official trailer for the expansion below.
