The moment that many feared would never happen has finally arrived! Today, a deal has been announced between Marvel and Sony Pictures Entertainment to, at long last, let Spidey join his other superhero brethren in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The yet unspecified movie could potentially be big for the continuity of the franchise as Spidey may be able to join screen time with Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and all the other Avengers and Marvel characters.

Heck, maybe even some wise-cracking banter between Peter Parker and Star Lord of the Guardians of the Galaxy may be set forth? We can only guess at this point.

Sony Pictures, of course, is still keeping their hands wound tightly around their rights to Spider-Man, but the deal that was finally struck seems to fill in the parameters that both studios have been trying to set forth for a potential crossover.

According to Doug Belgrad, president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, the deal will allow the story arc of Spider-Man to move forward in more creative ways that will not disappoint fans.

"Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker's story into the future," he said.

The new creative direction for Spider-Man will be unmasked on Jul. 28, 2017. It is being speculated that Spidey will make his first crossover appearance in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Civil War set for release in May 2016.

In the comic books that the movie will be based on, Spider-Man plays a crucial decision-making role in the split between Iron Man and Captain America, who are on opposite ends of a movement to push for superhero registration for government monitoring.

Although there are no details yet on Spidey's storyline or even who will play the new Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios has already shifted around its upcoming movie lineup to make room for the yet to be titled Spider-Man movie.

"The next Thor movie would have gone head-to-head with Spider-Man but is now taking Black Panther's original November 2017 premiere date. In turn, Black Panther is taking Captain Marvel's slot, which in turn is taking Inhumans' slot, which is now slated for July 12th, 2019," reported The Verge on the schedule.
