Remember 'Simpsons Pixels?' It was a short piece of animation made by Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon that recreated The Simpsons' iconic opening in a mind-blowing 8-bit pixel style.

It's a gorgeous short: everything from the colors to the character design to the extremely trippy ending is absolutely beautiful.

This isn't just your average fan recreation, either. Plenty of people have done a pixelated rendition of The Simpsons' opening bit, but 'Simpsons Pixels' didn't just look good - it took what could have been a simple rehash of the opening and turned it into something unique.

If you need a refresher (or somehow missed it the first time), here's the original video:

It's already got over two million hits on YouTube, and it definitely caught the attention of the folks in charge of the show:

In case you don't know who this 'Al Jean' fellow is, he happens to be the current showrunner for The Simpsons. It looks like 'Simpsons Pixels' will get its shot at the big time after all!

What's even better is that 'Simpsons Pixels' won't be tossed onto some random episode months from now - the short will actually debut before this week's episode. Assuming that the Feb. 15 episode was going to run the standard opening, it would be relatively easy to switch everything out, but to see the producers trying to get the short on TV so quickly is great.

You never know, 'Simpsons Pixels' could turn into something big if its momentum keeps building...maybe the next Simpsons video game could look like that?
