Hellboy is one of those fictional characters that you can imagine having a beer with. He's a much more human character than most superheroes these days...which is slightly ironic, given that he's a demon destined to bring the Apocalypse to our world, but that's not the point. Hellboy, for all of his red skin, horns and superpowers, is just a regular guy.

While having a beer with the guy might be impossible, there's actually a compromise: instead of having a beer with Hellboy, have a Hellboy beer!

Right Hand of Doom is a new beer from Rogue Ale & Spirits, and it's not a coincidence that it shares it's name with Hellboy's giant stone appendage. The red ale is being made as part of a deal with Dark Horse and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and the timing couldn't be better: the beer is set for release during the graphic novel's 21st anniversary.

Understandably, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is a bit surprised that such a thing would ever come to pass:

"When Dark Horse Comics published the first Hellboy story 21 years ago, I never thought there'd be a Hellboy beer. But I really can't imagine a better time for Rogue to introduce the Right Hand of Doom beer. If Hellboy was real I guess he'd finally be able to buy me a beer."

Of course, it just wouldn't be a Hellboy brew if it didn't look the part...thankfully, each bottle comes wrapped with Mignola's own iconic art. It's rare that a beer bottle looks so good, but again - it just wouldn't be the same if Hellboy's big mug wasn't plastered on the side.

Right Hand of Doom isn't available just yet: there are preorders available on Rogue's official site, but the first public tasting of the beer will take place at the Things From Another World comic shop in Portland. Mignola, along with fellow writers Eric Powell, Brian Wood and Matt Kindt will be on-hand for signings...and a few beers, too.

Brett Joyce, President of Rogue Ales said, "This beer is dedicated to the B.P.R.D. RIGHT HAND OF DOOM is brewed with all the same passion and intensity that Mike Mignola and Dark Horse have brought to Hellboy for the past 21 years."

As long as the beer doesn't bring about the Apocalypse, it's definitely something for Hellboy fans to look forward to. Right Hand of Doom preorders begin shipping at the end of this month.
