No other sci-fi movie has ever captured our imaginations and raised our adrenaline like the Alien series. It has become such a hit that four sequels have been made, plus a spin-off. But with any film franchise, there comes a time when the prequels don't give us as much excitement.

Just when we thought the end of the reel had come for this fascinating series, confirmation that director Neill Blomkamp is on board with 20th Century Fox for the next Alien movie has revived our enthusiasm. And I for one can't wait to see these aliens running around the big screen in all their glory once again.

The South African-Canadian director of such films as District 9 and Elysium is taking on this 20-year-old iconic movie and so far, from his Instagram posts, we can see that the Alien series is in good hands. Uploads of Blomkamp's ideas for the upcoming movie has fans buzzing with excitement.

Though Neill had stated in a previous interview that movie franchises might not be the best thing for him, he hasn't totally closed himself off to the opportunity of being part of one of the greatest film franchise to date.

Um... So I think it's officially my next film. #alien

"If it's going to happen, it has to be on my terms. So, I came up with it and I'm bringing this to [them]. It's not like, 'Would you like to do Spider-Man 36'? I still love it, I love the idea of the movie and I produced way more art than I put out," he said

His and many fans dreams have come true. The new Alien movie is set to follow the events after Prometheus 2. Dates of release for the movies have not yet been confirmed and all are still waiting to see if actress Sigourney Weaver will be reprising her role as Ellen Ripley. (Oh, please do!)

In 2002 the National Film Preservation Board of the United States considered the film Alien "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant." The film was also inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress for historical preservation.
