The rumor mill is abuzz with speculation surrounding Apple's impending successor to the iPhone 5S, dubbed the iPhone 6. Now, photos of the alleged smartphone have surfaced on Twitter, giving us a glimpse of the upcoming device.

Six images of what is believed to be the prototype of the next-generation iPhone 6 have popped up on Twitter, courtesy of an anonymous user "mornray886."

Mornray886 simply posted the alleged iPhone 6 images on his Twitter account, but did not give any other details, including how he gothis hands on them.

The images of the alleged iPhone 6 were also shared by blogger Sonny Dickinson who revealed to MacRumors that someone from China initially shared them and "claimed the images show the iPhone 6."

The leaked images of the supposed iPhone 6 show off the parts of the upcoming smartphone. The images suggest that the iPhone 6 will be bigger than the current iPhone models, which is in keeping with the rumors. The photos also reveal that the bezels surrounding the display have been shrunk in comparison to previous models.

Moreover, the rear of the smartphone seems slightly rounded and similar to the design sensibilities followed by the iPad. This feature will likely make it easier for consumers to hold the device despite the bigger screen.

At this juncture, the authenticity of the images remains circumspect. A possibility exists that the leaked images could be photoshopped and not the real deal. Prior to the release of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, the early prototype images of the devices showed a blank rear shell whereas the image of the iPhone 6 shell reveals FCC text. This is usually added to the smartphone much later.

What's more, the images do not show off any glass or plastic holes for an antenna, something that is notably present in the similarly designed current-generation iPod Touch.

Rumors have been rife that Apple will launch the iPhone 6 in three sizes: 4 inches (326 ppi), 4.7 inches (440 ppi) dubbed the iPhone Air and 5.5 inches (510 ppi), dubbed the iPhone Pro.

On Wednesday, February 12, a South China Morning Post (SCMP) report cited industry insiders as its sources and revealed that the iPhone 6 will come in two sizes - 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches - and will hit the shelves in September this year.

The site's sources also revealed that Apple would discontinue the cheaper iPhone 5C after the iPhone 6 launch.

Rumors have also hinted that the iPhone 6 will have a curved display, but the current leaked images point to a flat screen. The iPhone 6 is also expected to tout a sapphire glass display, making the smartphone sleeker and more durable. It is also anticipated to pack in a Touch ID fingerprint sensor like the iPhone 5S.

While the legitimacy of the leaked images remains questionable, they undoubtedly give us an idea of what the much-awaited iPhone 6 will look like.
