Hollywood's most-awaited event - the 87th Academy Awards - where the red carpet sees the stars descend by the number has just concluded.

The star-studded extravaganza saw "The Grand Budapest Hotel" take away four Oscars for best production design, costume design, makeup and hairstyling, and the best original score. It had August Company in Birdman, which also notched up four Academy Awards, including the coveted Best Picture, Cinematography, Original Screenplay and Best Director awards.

The Oscar for the Best Actor and Best Actress went to Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything and Julianne Moore for Still Alice, respectively.

The Best Foreign Film was won by the Polish-film Ida, whereas the Big Hero 6 took home the honors for the Best Animated Film edging out How to Train Your Dragon 2.

Some poignant moments from the 87th Academy Awards included the tribute performance of The Sound of Music songs by Lady Gaga. The hills were alive as Lady Gaga sang "Edelweiss," "My Favorite things" and more in the medley that commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Hollywood musical. A visibly teary-eyed Julie Andrews, who played Maria in the Hollywood classic, hugged the singer post the performance.

The Oscar moment was undoubtedly the moving speech given by Graham Moore who won the award for the Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game. Moore's speech touched on depression and suicide.

"I tried to commit suicide at 16 and now I'm standing here," said Moore. "I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she doesn't fit in anywhere. You do. Stay weird. Stay different, and then when it's your turn and you are standing on this stage please pass the same message along."
