Disney announced the reluanch of one of our favorite animated series, DuckTales (woo-oo!), which will hit the air on Disney XD in 2017.

Cartoon lovers will get brand-new animated episodes based on the classic Emmy Award-winning series, which originally aired during The Disney Afternoon from 1987 to 1990.

The new DuckTales series will be produced by Disney Television Animation and feature the same beloved characters as the original. Of course the stars of the show will be Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, as they seek adventure and more gold for Uncle Scrooge's indoor rich dude pool.

The animated series will also feature Donald Duck as well as the characters Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell & Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys, Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack.

"DuckTales has a special place in Disney's TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks' comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults," said Marc Buhaj, SVP, Programming and General Manager at Disney XD. "Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation."

It is not yet not known if the series will feature hand-drawn animation used in the original, or if Disney Television Animation will opt for CG animation. It also would be cool to have some of the original voice actors like Alan Young and June Foray for the relaunch, but Disney has not given up any of these details.

While the relaunch of DuckTales is exciting, it may not come as a surprise to some. The video game DuckTales Remastered was released by Capcom & Disney Interactive in August 2013 to huge acclaim, so it was only a matter of time before the ducks came back in action to solve a mystery or to rewrite history.
