Acer has taken the wraps off of two new smartphones from its Z-series at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 - the Liquid Z520 and Liquid Z220 smartphones.

The Liquid Z220 is the first smartphone from Acer to come with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop, whereas the Z520 is targeted at selfie lovers.

"The stylish Z220 all-rounder primed for feature phone upgraders, party-goers or basic silver surfers on the go in an incredibly slim-yet feature-packed mobile device. The Z520 all-rounder primed for media fans seeking a blend of style and functionality, completes the duo," revealed Acer in a press release.

The Liquid Z520 is the bigger of the two newly-introduced smartphones from Acer and promises "all-round high entertainment." The phablet boasts a 5-inch display (with 800 x 480 pixels resolution and 187ppi).

The Liquid Z520 will be powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, which is clocked at 1.3GHz. The device has 1GB of RAM and comes with 32GB of on-board storage, with the option to expand the memory via a microSD card. However, since details are slim at this juncture it is not known up to what capacity the memory can be expanded.

The Liquid Z520 will tout an 8-megapixel primary camera with LED flash and autofocus. The front-facing camera is 2 megapixels. The neat thing about the camera is that it has been updated to offer a touchless selfie experience to users. The camera is voice activated and one simply needs to give the instruction and voila! the picture is taken hands free!

Another upgrade to this Z-series smartphone is that it packs in the DTS Studio Sound to bring an engaging stereo sound experience for video and music lovers. This feature brings better clarity and greater sound field.

The Liquid Z520 will come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box and will retail for 109 euros in Europe (approximately $120).

The Liquid Z220 is targeted at users in all age groups who want to own a secondary smartphone, which can be used when one is on a holiday and does not want to worry too much about their premium smartphone.

The Android smartphone touts a 4-inch WVGA screen (233ppi) which may seem a tad small at first glance. The display also seems crowded owing to the big bezels, which users may find disconcerting. Under the hood, the Liquid Z220 houses a dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, which is clocked at 1.2GHz. The dual-SIM smartphone (optional) has just 1GB of RAM and comes with 8GB of on-board storage.

The Liquid Z220 also has a 5-megapixel primary camera that has an 89degree wide angle view and flash capabilities. The front-facing camera is 2 megapixels and should take decent selfies. The smartphone has an exposure control feature, which will enable users to adjust and control the brightness and focus individually. This way one can click better images by altering the exposure.

The compact Liquid Z220 will come with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. The 3G smartphone is slated to retail for 89 euros in Europe (approximately $100).

The U.S. price and availability of the smartphones is not known currently.
