A new commercial has been released by Google to promote its Android operating system that is entitled Selfie Slam.

The contents of the commercial can be imagined from the title itself, as the advertisement combines taking selfies with a basketball player's slam dunk.

The commercial shows a very tall Android mascot dunk over an entire team of other Android mascots while everyone, even the tall Android dunking the ball, is taking a selfie.

The Android commercial acknowledges the selfie craze while using the tagline of "Be together, not the same."

"Each great on their own, but even better when merged together," the description of the video said.

The commercial may be about how much different the various Android-based devices are, as they are made by different manufacturers all over the world. However, despite varying software and hardware, each device contributes to the Android ecosystem for all users.

In addition, different manufacturers with their different variations of the Android operating system present users with so many options, as opposed to its chief rival Apple that only has one version of the iOS.

This characteristic of Android devices, however, can also be seen as a bad thing as the devices are fragmented. With iOS device all running the same kind of operating system and all looking the same, it is sometimes seen as a negative trait that Android devices barely resemble one another.

Google has recently released another commercial, though instead of featuring animated Android mascots, the commercial released last month featured cute animals.

Using the same tagline of "Be together, not the same," the commercial showed several videos featuring animals that are, surprisingly, the best of friends. The commercial showed dogs and elephants playing together, horses and monkeys and even cats and dogs.

Google's most recent development in advertising involves a pilot program for allowing app developers to feature their apps in advertisements in search results when users search for apps on the Google Play Store.

The pilot program, which was announced by Google through a post on the Android Developers blog, aims to widen the advertising platform of Google while at the same time providing developers with a new way to increase the visibility and awareness of their apps.

"Search ads on Google Play will enable to drive more awareness of their apps and provide consumers new ways to discover apps that they otherwise might have missed," said Google Play product management director Michael Siliski.
