New images of HTC's upcoming One M9 Plus have leaked online. The image shows the 5.2-inch Quad HD One M9 Plus with the 5-inch One M9.

At this year's Mobile World Congress, Samsung took the wraps off of its two new flagship smartphones; the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The handsets both feature 5.1-inch Quad HD displays, with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which is a step up from last year's Full HD display found on the Galaxy S5.

On the same day Samsung was showing off the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to the world, HTC was also debuting its new One M9 smartphone, which will compete directly with Samsung's new handsets. The One M9 retains the same 1080p Full HD display as last year's One M8, but a newly leaked image shows HTC is considering matching Samsung by releasing its very own Quad HD-equipped smartphone.

A new post from OnLeaks shows the HTC One M9 compared with a slightly larger HTC One M9 Plus, which is said to feature a 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display. As you can see in the image, the One M9 Plus also has a home button situated between the HTC BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers, which is rumored to house a fingerprint scanner similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

The rear of the HTC One M9 Plus compared to the One M9 shows the smartphone is using a similar Duo Camera UltraPixel setup as last year's One M8. The tipster also listed the One M9 Plus' dimensions as 150.9 x 72.5 x 10.15mm, which makes the smartphone a tiny bit thicker and wider than the One M9, which measures 144.6 x 69.7 x 9.6mm.

There's no word on when and if HTC is planning to release the One M9 Plus, once we hear any new details regarding the smartphone, we'll report right back to you.
