A new trailer for Mortal Kombat X is here and confirms yet another playable character for the game's ever-increasing roster. This time it's an old favorite - Liu Kang.

But this isn't the Liu Kang you remember. The plot-heavy Russian trailer reveals that he and Kung Lao have both lost their souls to Mortal Kombat villain Shinnok after the events of the last game.

Now they serve their master in the Netherrealm, and that will put them in direct confrontation with the defenders of Earth.

We also get a brief (and I mean very brief) appearance by Bo' Rai Cho at the beginning of the trailer as he talks to Raiden.

It's possible he could be yet another playable fighter for the game, but he isn't shown in combat here.

It looks like Mortal Kombat news won't be slowing down in the final weeks before the game's April release. Last week the game's DLC characters were revealed, which include cinematic icons Predator and Jason Voorhees, as well as returning Mortal Kombat characters Tremor and Tanya.

A leaked list of modifiers for the game's new "Kustom Kombat" mode seems to indicate we might see the reveal of several additional fighters in the next few weeks as well. The list of modifiers includes references to Stryker, Smoke, Rain, Kabal and Cyrax. Might they all be joining the Mortal Kombat X roster? We will know for sure soon.

If you want to know even more about the events leading up to the game's storyline, be sure to check out our weekly reviews of the Mortal Kombat X prequel comic.

Mortal Kombat X releases on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on April 14. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers will have to wait until the summer to get their hands on the title.
