Samsung and T-Mobile are all set to roll out the first firmware update to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, even as most customers still haven't gotten their hands on the latest smartphones yet.

The "mandatory" update will consist of 177MB of performance-enhancing software that will most likely stay behind the scenes. Mostly, the update will bring bug fixes to minor problems, a slew of stability improvements, performance tweaks regarding the handsets' fingerprint scanner, and further optimizations so the phones can make better use of T-Mobile's 4G LTE network.

The update will be released over the air as soon as users take their phones right out of the box, which means they will not be able to get started tinkering with their new devices as soon as they receive them, but with a decent Wi-Fi signal, the update should not take too long to download and install.

So far, only T-Mobile has announced the update for the pair of Samsung smartphones, but it will not be surprising if Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint also make a similar announcement.

T-Mobile has started receiving pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge and shipping the smartphones to the first customers. The Uncarrier says customers should wait at least seven to 10 days to receive the 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB black and white variants of the Galaxy S6 Edge and a similar amount of time for the Galaxy S6 32GB and 64GB black and white. The 128GB black and white Galaxy S6 will ship anywhere from two to four weeks, while all gold platinum models are labeled as "Coming Soon."

Pre-orders are accepted for the Galaxy S6 Edge 32GB for $779.76, the 64GB for $859.83, and the 128GB for $959.53. The Galaxy S6 is $100 less than the Edge model, with prices starting at $679.92 for 32GB, $759.99 for 64GB, and $859.99 for 128GB.

T-Mobile also accepts monthly installments 24 months for "well-qualified buyers," starting at $32.49 for the 32GB Galaxy S6 Edge and $28.33 for the 32GB Galaxy S6 with $0 down payment, $31.66 for the 64GB Galaxy S6 Edge and $27.50 for the 64GB Galaxy S6 with $99 down payment, and $31.66 for the 128GB Galaxy S6 Edge and $27.50 for the 128GB Galaxy S6 with $199 down payment.
