The Evil Dead remake was surprisingly good — not just as a horror remake (of which there are seemingly thousands), but as a standalone movie.

It ditched the campy, indie-filmmaker approach of the original and went straight for the gore — in other words, it looked at the original for inspiration, then went and did its own thing.

It's the kind of horror remake that all horror remakes should aspire to be.

That being said, there was one thing that no remake could ever hope to replicate. You can have all of the blood, gore and CG in the world, but it will never be able to replace the campy charm (or chin) of Bruce Campbell.

That's why fans are so excited about Ash vs. Evil Dead — Starz is set to bring Evil Dead back to its roots, and Campbell's coming along for the ride.

It's been a long time coming, but Starz has finally revealed the show's poster and the first teaser trailer — just don't expect too much quite yet:

Yes, it's great to see that Ash vs. Evil Dead is on track for release, and it's great to see that the show is starting to come together — then again, that teaser didn't show much of anything. Of course, it is just a teaser — anyone hoping for a full-length trailer was going to be disappointed — but there wasn't even any Bruce Campbell in it!

Granted, the poster is great (and a fantastic nod to an infamous scene in the first film), and the fact that such a show is even being made is amazing. There's still quite a wait before fans get to see much else as the series hasn't even entered production yet ... but at the end of the day, that doesn't really matter. Evil Dead is back!

Here's the show's official synopsis:

"[Bruce] Campbell will be reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons — personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its "Evil" grip.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Burn Notice) in the role of Ash Williams, Lucy Lawless (Salem, Spartacus) as Ruby, a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks, Jill Marie Jones (Sleepy Hollow) as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner, Ray Santiago (TouchMeet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash's loyal sidekick and Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past."

There's only one thing left to say: groovy.

Ash vs. Evil Dead is set to start shooting later this year.
