If last week's video game release schedule was a little light for your tastes, then this week's offerings won't do much to impress.

It's one of those weird in-between weeks with a few big releases happening both before and after.

For whatever reason, this week is particularly barren.

That said, there are still a few quality releases set for this week – 3DS owners will have plenty to play – and while there may be more re-releases than usual, that's just a good excuse to play through some old favorites again.

So, without further ado, here are the biggest releases for the week of April 6-10.

Bastion

Release Date: April 7
Platform: PS4, PS Vita

Supergiant Games' first title finally joins Transistor on the PlayStation 4! Bastion tells the story of a young boy trying to fix his world after it literally shatters. If you haven't played it already, Bastion was one of the best action-RPG games of the last console generation, featuring one of the best stories (and narrators) in gaming. Trust us — the soundtrack alone is worth the purchase.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin

Release Date: April 7
Platform: PS4, Xbox One

PC and last-gen console players may be familiar with Dark Souls II, but it's time for the next-gen players to finally get their hands on the game. Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin features a completely redone lighting system, new graphical touch-ups, and – most importantly – reworked enemies and combat encounters. Even if you've played Dark Souls II before, Scholar of the First Sin will keep you on your toes.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon

Release Date: April 7
Platform: 3DS

Remember those old Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games? Well, Etrian Mystery Dungeon is basically that same formula — just with knights, wizards and monsters instead of Nintendo's cuddly mascots. Fans of the Etrian Odyssey games should feel right at home here, and anyone looking for a classic dungeon crawler should definitely give it a try.

Pokemon Rumble World

Release Date:
Platform: 3DS

If the turn-based battles of traditional Pokemon games aren't quite your speed, then Pokemon Rumble World may be for you. As one of Nintendo's first real efforts in the free-to-play genre, there's a chance that the game's microtransactions could hurt its overall playability. That said, the game looks like a fun little action-RPG. And with a price tag of $0, there's really nothing to lose.

Affordable Space Adventures

Release Date: April 9
Platform: Wii U

As it stands, most Wii U games don't take advantage of the hardware — even some of the system's best games don't use the GamePad controller for much. Affordable Space Adventures however takes the Wii U hardware and runs with it. Unlike many games on the system, the Gamepad and Miiverse integration are integral to Affordable Space Adventures — something more Wii U titles should do.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D

Release Date: April 10
Platform: 3DS

It's ironic that, for a game that wasn't originally going to see a Western release, Xenoblade Chronicles is being re-released on the New Nintendo 3DS. The idea of a Wii game fitting on a 3DS cartridge isn't unheard of, but something as utterly massive as Xenoblade seemed impossible. If, for whatever reason, you missed the game during its original run on the Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D is a nice way to start filling up that New Nintendo 3DS library.

Yes, this week is pretty light on releases, but there's plenty here worth picking up. New Nintendo 3DS owners will definitely get their money's worth (especially with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D), and while Xbox One owners may not be able to get their hands on Bloodborne, the updated Dark Souls II should help fill that niche.

Fear not, fellow gamers — this dry spell won't last for long!
