Physical PC games are becoming a rare breed. Head to any video game retailer and the PC selection is more likely to be made up of Steam Gift Cards than actual games.

It's all digital these days, thanks to services like Steam and Origin. Now digital game retailer Good Old Games (GOG) is looking to make the transition from physical to digital even more complete, with a brand-new feature that will convert your PC game keys into DRM-free digital ones.

The number of games this feature works on is incredibly low right now: only six games qualify, and three of those are Russian-only titles. If, however, you are the proud owner of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, its sequels or spinoffs, you're in luck. Simply find the game key that came with your boxed copy and type it in.

Now you have a DRM-free, digital version of your game to enjoy. The game will be added to your GOG.com library, along with all the extra goodies — like digital soundtracks and manuals that come with the game, as purchased normally from GOG.com. No more having to worry about losing the code in order to reinstall it. While the service is limited at the moment, GOG is looking to a work with a bigger selection of PC titles that will be compatible with the new feature in the future.

One important note: you can only digify your games once, whether on GOG or on a similar website. From the features FAQ page:

"The game you redeem here is subject to the EULA provided with the GOG.com version of the game. If a similar campaign is made available elsewhere, your key won't be redeemable again."

It's a one-and-done deal, so be sure you want to go through with the digital conversion before clicking Accept.
