Actress Katee Sackhoff recently announced that she will be partnering with Reunion Pictures to create her own dystopian science fiction TV series in which she will write, produce and star in.

The series, titled Rain, tells the story of a future Earth devastated by global warming. Deadline Hollywood describes it like this:

"Rain is described as an evolutionary parable that gives us a look into our possible future as a species viewed through the eyes of a soldier named Rain (Sackhoff). It explores how the long term affects of global warming, the burning of fossil fuels and the scientific manipulation of natures balance rot the world on an even decline."

Sackhoff, most well-known for her role as Starbuck on Syfy's Battlestar Galactica, will act as executive producer on the project with her production company, Fly Free Productions. Reunion Pictures, the company behind science fiction series Continuum, will co-produce.

"With Rain, Katee has created a future world and a story that are compelling as both a sweeping vision and a very personal exploration of a civilization in harrowing decline by its own hand," says Tom Rowe of Reunion Pictures. "She has written a great story and we are excited to be working with her."

Sackhoff most recently made waves as the pink Power Ranger in a gritty, dark and violent Power Rangers fan film. The film became so controversial that the owners of the franchise tried to take the video down, citing copyright (although most would view the fan film as satire).

Sackhoff's most current role is in Longmire, a crime drama series recently canceled by A&E, but picked up for another season on Netflix. On that show, she plays a homicide detective in Wyoming.

There are also rumors that Sackhoff is being entertained by Marvel to play Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers in an upcoming movie based on the comic book heroine. Joss Whedon also recently posted a tease tweet mentioning the new female Thor with a photo of Sackhoff.
