Sony is making plans to release an animated Spider-Man movie a year after Marvel Studios bring the character to theaters in his first solo outing since the deal between both companies.

According to Sony at CinemaCon, the animated feature film will be released on July 20, 2018, so it means the live-action Spider-Man movie will hit theaters in 2017, the same year Warner Bros. is aiming to bring Wonder Woman in her first solo movie to the big screen.

Sony Pictures chairman, Tom Rothman, says that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the men behind the animated movie. For those who are unaware, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are the minds behind The Lego Movie and Clouds with a Chance of Meatballs. Both men also developed 21 Jump Street and its sequel, 22 Jump Street.

Chris Miller and Phil Lord have been rumored to be the men to write the script for Warner Bros. "The Flash" movie. They are also expected to direct, and since both men have such a good working relationship with Warner Bros., we can't see no reason why this isn't the case.

We understand that the animated Spider-Man movie will be independent of whatever Marvel Studios come up with in 2017. From all indication, this Spider-Man movie doesn't appear to be going directly to DVD, so fans should expect two different Spider-Man characters on the big screen.

We're not certain if this will become an issue, but since there are two Quicksilver characters, one from Marvel Studios, and the other from Fox, this shouldn't be a problem as long there are some distinct differences.

Spider-Man in live-action is expected to make his first appearance in Captain America: Civil War in 2016 before getting his own solo movie in 2017. We expect the character to be a prominent member of the Avengers team in Infinity Wars - Part 1 and Part 2, as those films are expected to kick off the Thanos story arc.
