Since its launch back in September, Destiny has continued to change. Updates address both player requests and exploits, new content is made with high-level players in mind, and Bungie has been open about how the fans themselves are influencing how the game's post-lauch content is made.

It's something that few other developers do, and while many would have preferred that Destiny launched with all of these features intact, most are happy that they made it into the game at all.

The upcoming House of Wolves expansion marks one of Bungie's biggest updates so far - there's a lot about Destiny that's going to change when the second expansion hits in a few weeks, and fans have only gotten to see the tip of the iceberg.

There are some big updates coming to Destiny within the next few weeks, and here are just five of the major fixes that fans should take notice of:

'The Queen's Bay' Social Space has room for expansion

While demoing the Queen's Bay, Bungie showed off quite a bit of the new Social Space - what's even more intriguing are the numerous locked doors throughout the station. The Tower has been pretty stagnant since launch, but it seems like there's quite a bit of the Vestian Outpost that Bungie isn't quite ready to show off yet. It's almost guaranteed that the station will continue to grow in the months after House of Wolves launches.

Players can now exchange Upgrade Materials via the Speaker

Every Destiny player knows the feeling of needing one material while sitting on a massive pile of another. Thankfully, that won't be an issue for much longer: the Speaker will now allow players to exchange one Upgrade Material for another. What's even better is that the exchange is a one-to-one rate - players won't have to worry about wasting these precious materials during a trade.

Weapons can now be Reforged

Back in the Tower, Bungie confirmed that the Gunsmith is finally going to live up to his name: for a price, the Gunsmith can now reforge weapons. Basically, reforging will swap the perks and damage type of a weapon with new ones, at the cost of any experience the weapon has already acquired. This only applies to new weapons, so don't expect to reforge your Gallahorn any time soon - but you can expect to have a lot more control over how your favorite gun functions.

Older Legendary and Exotic weapons can now be upgraded

Just because older guns can't be reforged doesn't mean they're completely obsolete: Bungie is introducing a new upgrade system for older Legendary and Exotic weapons. Using a new resource called 'Etheric Light,' players will be able to bring old favorites up to Destiny's current endgame damage thresholds. That being said, Etheric Light is a rare drop: you should only expect to see it drop during certain endgame events (such as Nightfall Strikes and the Prison of Elders).

House of Wolves isn't required to access all of the new features

While House of Wolves will come packed with a host of new content, Bungie clearly doesn't want to split its player base. That means that, when House of Wolves launches later in May, everyone will have access to the new features: reforging, the Reef, material exchange and everything else will come as part of the expansion's free update. Players without the expansion obviously won't be able to play the new Story Quests or the Prison of Elders mode, but they'll still have access to all of the new tools that comes along with House of Wolves.

House of Wolves isn't just another Destiny content update - it's a way that Bungie can change how its game plays. Sure, there's still a lot of shooting and looting, but players will finally have the control they've been begging for. It shows that Bungie isn't just committed to releasing expansion packs, they're actually listening to what their fans have to say. If only more developers did the same.

Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, will be available on May 19.
