Following a whirlwind romance, on-screen vampires and real-life lovers Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed tied the knot on Sunday. The pair had publicly confirmed their engagement in January, after dating for less than a year.

Somerhalder, 36, is best known as the love interest of Elena Gilbert, or actress Nina Dobrev on the CW series, The Vampire Diaries. The co-stars were linked outside of the show as well, dating for three years.

Reed, 26, is a Twilight alum and used to be married to American Idol musician Paul McDonald. The pair decided to call it quits in March of last year and were officially divorced three months ago.

The newlyweds made it clear that their relationship is more than just an infatuation:

"What's actually, I think, nurtured this long friendship that we've had is that we are passionate about similar things," said Reed.

Some of the couple's shared passions include their love for animals and their desire to make the world a better place.

"We do wake up in the morning and talk about those things," added Reed.

Rumor however has it that the couple rushed to the altar because Reed is pregnant with Somerhalder's baby. The actress reportedly didn't want to have to hide a baby bump under her wedding dress. Some might say that getting married in a hurry is the last thing Reed should do after having just gotten divorced following a short marriage, but the couple doesn't seem fazed by the gossip.

As for Somerhalder, an insider told Hollywoodlife.com, "Ian hopes that Nina finds the love of a lifetime because he has found his. He looks forward to seeing her do amazingly well in her life and her relationships. He knows he will forever be linked to Nina, but his life is now Nikki and his focus is always on her. He is not going to live in the past and he hopes that Nina doesn't herself."

Dobrev was reportedly invited to attend the wedding and had even thought about going. In the end, she was said to have made the decision not to go because it would be painful for her to watch Ian marrying Nikki.

"What they had was great, but people break up, move on and learn from past experiences," said another insider to Hollywood life.com.

The wedding is the first for Somerhalder and the second for Reed, and the couple has so far not responded to the pregnancy rumors.
