Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon doesn't shy away from teasing fans left and right on Twitter, and his latest gem is no exception.

Fans have been clamoring to know if non-playable characters who appear in the Mortal Kombat X story mode (like Rain, Baraka and Sindel) might be added as fully playable characters later down the line.

No official announcements on the matter have been made, but Boon has previously teased the idea of a Mortal Kombat X "story pack" which might make these fighters playable.

His latest tease, however, is referring to one character in particular: Rain. The water-ninja is a classic Mortal Kombat character first introduced in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. He also appeared in 2011's Mortal Kombat reboot as one of the game's DLC characters.

It certainly seems like Rain might be introduced to the game properly sooner rather than later. It won't be soon enough for some fans, though, as players have already hacked the game's PC version to gain access to certain characters seen in the game's single-player story.

The first post-launch DLC character for the game, Jason Voorhees of Friday the 13th fame, releases today for Mortal Kombat X "Kombat Pass" owners. Everybody else will have to wait until May 12 to purchase the machete wielding madman for $4.99.

Mortal Kombat X is currently available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of the title will be released on June 2.
