The end of any given month is the best time to be a gamer. And why exactly is the end of the month the best time?

Because that is when Sony and Microsoft both announce all the awesome games you will be able download in the coming weeks, free of charge.

Sony is beating Microsoft to the punch for June by announcing their free game lineup a few days earlier than usual, and it includes four games playable on the PlayStation 4. You will be able to download Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition, Super Exploding Zoo, Futuridium EP Deluxe, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger and Cloudberry Kingdom June 1.

The biggest game on the list is without question Metal Gear Solid. This prequel to the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ruffled some feathers when it released early last year due to it's short, demo-like nature and high price point. Players could plow through the game's story in two hours, though various side and "just for fun" missions added some extra value to the package.

It might not have been a great choice for a $40 release, but Ground Zeroes is a perfect fit for June's free game offerings. With The Phantom Pain coming in September, this will give gamers a taste of what is to come and build up excitement for the full product.

But Metal Gear Solid isn't the only free PS4 game being offered. Strategy fans can Skulls of the Shogun: Bone-A-Fide Edition for a spin for some intense turn-based action.

Super Exploding Zoo and Futuridium EP Deluxe can be played on the PS4 or PS Vita, and both offer completely different experiences. Super Exploding Zoo tasks you with defending animal eggs from aliens with exploding animals, while Futuridium is a stylish shooter featuring a killer electronic soundtrack. PlayStation 3 owners can journey back to the wild, wild west in the first-person shooter Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, or test our your platforming skills in Cloudberry Kingdom.

Variety is king, and the June PS Plus offerings are certainly diverse. Expect to hear an announcement about Microsoft's selection of free games for June soon.
