AT&T just lopped $200 off of the price of the LG G Watch R, bringing the round-faced smartwatch down to $99. The thing is, at $200 price cut online applies to online order and AT&T's web fulfillment service currently has no more G Watch Rs to sell.

AT&T's online stock of LG G Watch R's could be replenished at any moment. Even if they don't intend to sell more G Watch R's for $99, the smartwatch will be deeply discounted frequently from here on.

LG has already crowned the LG Watch Urbane the Watch R's successor, which arrive about half a year after its predecessor. The specs of the Watch R and Watch Urbane are almost identical, though the latter is a bit more weighty.

The Watch R has even been updated to Android Wear 5.1.1, though it won't have its Wi-Fi capabilities unlocked until later this year.

The G Watch R features a 1.3 inch, circular P-OLED display and is driven by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor. The smartwatch is stocked with half a GB of RAM and 4 GB of storage space.

With its IP67 rating, the G Watch R can be submerged, "gently," down as far a meter into water for up to half an hour.

As manufacturers of smartwatches for Android Wear battle for supremacy in the nascent wearables market, consumers can expect to see more incremental iterations of devices that were flagships just months earlier. Wearable can't be compared to smartphones or tablets, Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Mobile, said last year as he heralded the arrival of the G Watch R.

"Wearables are also accessories and consumers will want more than one to choose from," said Park. "So we wanted to complement the modern design of the original G Watch with the classic look of the G Watch R. Customers can't go wrong with either device."

Apparently, the above is still the case as LG released the Watch Urban to primarily update the cosmetics of the Watch R.

Bottom line: those in search of a new smartwatch can go far wrong in choosing the Watch R over the Watch Urbane. With a $200 price cut, the LG G Watch R is a winner for many consumers.
