We've seen this storyline before—budding WWE superstar with a growing buzz loses a hard-fought battle to John Cena. He earns Cena's respect, but comes up short defeating the longtime standard in the WWE.

For its Elimination Chamber event on Sunday night, though, the WWE decided to go against the grain. Instead of having that rising star lose a closely-contested bout to Cena, they actually had Cena take the fall to push him over.

The 'him' was Kevin Owens. If you didn't know Kevin Owens before Sunday night, chances are you know him now.

The NXT champion made his WWE pay-per-view debut ultra memorable by shockingly defeating Cena. Who would have expected that? Kevin took his "Fight Owens Fight" mantra to Cena for nearly 20 minutes, before scoring the victory via a Pop-Up Powerbomb.

It was easily one of the biggest upsets in WWE history and showed that the WWE is willing to take chances...a welcoming sound to its fans. The fact that they used Cena to push Owens over is special because it's something we've rarely seen. We're all for it because it provides an elements of pure unpredictability and risk-taking gold.

As if the match—easily the best of Sunday night's event—wasn't enough, Owens' exhilarating comments afterwards definitely drove his stardom to new heights.

"Everyone knows who Kevin Owens is!" Owens yelled into the microphone, standing in the center of the ring on Sunday night after his improbable win. "I'm the man who started a fight with John Cena, but I'm also the man who just finished that fight! And now that I've beaten John Cena, John, I have some veteran advice—It's time for you to go because your time is way up, but my time is now because THE CHAMP IS HERE!"

WWE.com also caught up with Owens following his huge win in this exclusive clip.

We think it's safe to say on behalf of the WWE Universe, that we would love to see more gambling on the parts of their writers in the storylines. This was fantastic!
