BlackBerry fans who have been eyeing the BlackBerry Passport can now grab the smartphone for a discount thanks to the company's ongoing promotion.
With Father's Day and graduations round the corner, as well as summer vacations rolling in, BlackBerry has timed its limited period promotion well. As part of the offer, BlackBerry will shave $50 off the unlocked version of the BlackBerry Passport in the U.S., bringing the price down from $549 to $499.
In the U.S., however, the BlackBerry Passport is compatible only with AT&T and will not work on other network carriers such as Verizon Wireless, U.S. Cellular and Sprint.
BlackBerry fans in Canada and Europe need not feel left out; the company will offer a $100 discount in Canada, bringing down the smartphone's price to $599 from the original $699. Customers in France can purchase the BlackBerry Passport for 499 euros instead of 649 euros. Those in Denmark can grab the smartphone for 499 euros instead of 699 euros. However, the price of the BlackBerry Passport remains the same for consumers in the UK.
The BlackBerry Passport boasts a 4.5-inch 1440 x 1440 pixels resolution touchscreen display that is square. The screen has a 1:1 aspect ratio, but the square shape may not appeal to everyone.
Under the hood, the BlackBerry Passport is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, which is clocked at 2.2GHz. It also boasts 3GB of RAM and offers 32GB of on-board memory, which can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card.
Camera lovers will not be disappointed either as the smartphone touts a 13MP rear-facing camera with OIS and a 2MP secondary camera for all your selfie needs. The BlackBerry Passport also houses a powerful 3,450 battery, which lasts for up to 30 hours of use.
Moreover, the smartphone offers support for Android apps, as well as games that can be found via the Amazon Appstore. The smartphone also packs in BlackBerry Blend and BlackBerry Assistant.
