TiVo recently launched the TiVo Online service, which allows the company's current subscribers to search and watch movies, sporting events or TV shows on a supported web browser from their laptops. This feature combines the database power of TiVo with the convenience of a unified search on the computer. Users can instantly watch shows, whether the content is available from live TV or streaming services.

With TiVo Online, active subscribers can easily organize their OnePass selections through the OnePass Manager, such as reordering or transferring recorded content from one TiVo DVR to another. The My Shows option manages episodes to watch at a later time, while the To Do List integration permits managing and scheduling upcoming recordings directly from the browser. TiVo Online also has a menu of live streaming TV stations, though it's basically just a compiled list of links and not necessarily related to TiVo services.

TiVo Premiere and Roamio DVR owners are also able to stream live content or recordings in a browser on a laptop or desktop, so long as it's on the same home network as the TiVo DVR. Due to technical restrictions and content providers, not all material is viewable or transferable to a laptop. Out-of-home streaming could be available at some point as well as downloading support — but no official announcement has been made yet.

Meanwhile, TiVo's mobile apps for Android and iOS offer faster performance than the website. Different functions are also available for subscribers, including out-of-home and in-house streaming, as well as the capability to download recordings to tablets and smartphones.

Non-TiVo subscribers can log in as guests to view a standard channel guide and programming. Anyone can access the information regarding the shows, such as the cast and even the streaming services that offer the shows, such as Amazon Prime Video, Hulu Plus, Netflix, ABC.com, YouTube and more. Of course, non-subscribers will be teased about the nice capabilities of TiVo DVRs.

Subscriber or not, the unified search of TiVo Online is a great site to use if you're trying to quickly find out where and when to watch a movie or binge on a TV series.
