Update: PlayStation Network is now up and running once again. Those who waited out the downtime to get their multi-player fill can now log back in to PSN and use all services problem-free.

Sony's PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently suffering a massive outage affecting the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and other gaming platforms.

Sony itself has confirmed on its PSN status website that the service interruption, which began at around 11:45 P.M. PDT, is affecting PSN's major services, including Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Vue and PlayStation Store.

"You may be experiencing issues related to signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network," says Sony. "You may be experiencing issues related to launching games, applications and/or social features such as trophies, messaging or friends list. We appreciate your patience while we address this."

Sony is not saying what is causing the outage. It also does not specify when gamers can expect to be able to log back in to PSN again. Twitter account @AskPlayStation appears to be mum in answering questions thrown its way by irate gamers while still responding to queries not related to the downtime.

Naturally, Sony's lack of communication with gamers who are raring to go multi-player on their favorite games has elicited anger from the PlayStation community, with many of them poking and taunting at Sony on Twitter to release their woes.

This is the second major outage for PSN in a month, with May 15 seeing major network services go down for millions of gamers around the world. Sony did not specify its network troubles at the time, and many players complained that the loss of service lasted through an entire weekend until May 18.

It is unknown if the current outage is the result of online troublemakers hitting at Sony's network, although no hacker or trolling group has yet to take responsibility for the outage.

Security experts have long warned that Sony will continue to be a target of hackers after a security breach of PSN occurred in 2011, resulting in the theft of personal information of more than 70 million users.

It is also likely that Sony could simply be having technical issues with its major servers, especially since ZeniMax, maker of the recently launched Elder Scrolls Online (ESO), announced on its online forum that it will be conducting maintenance on the PS4 megaserver early Saturday morning.

However, an ESO representative says the American PS4 megaserver is now back online, but gamers may be having issues connecting because of the problems with PSN.
