The new Sony Xperia Z3+/Z4 flagship performs slower than its Xperia Z3 predecessor in some instances, as a new video reveals.

Sony first took the wraps off its new-generation Xperia Z4 back in April, but unveiled the handset for Japan only. Toward the end of May, the company unveiled the Xperia Z3+, which is simply the global, rebranded version of the Xperia Z4.

The latest flagship smartphone from the company stirred lots of mixed reactions, with many considering that it wasn't a big enough upgrade over its predecessor, and a new video adds more fuel to the fire.

As a reminder, the Sony Xperia Z3+/Z4 comes with a 5.2-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, i.e. the same display of its Xperia Z3 predecessor. The new iteration also retains the same overall design of the Xperia Z3, but sports a thinner and lighter form factor.

The Xperia Z3+/Z4 packs a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor under the hood, coupled with an Adreno 430 graphics processing unit (GPU) and 3GB of RAM.

Other specifications include 32GB of storage, expandable up to 128GB via microSD, a 20.7-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 2,900 mAh battery. The Xperia Z3+/Z4 is waterproof and dust-resistant, and features LTE Cat. 6 and Wi-Fi MIMO support that should translate to faster connection speeds.

The processor powering the Xperia Z3+/Z4, however, has sparked some controversy. Numerous reports revealed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 has some overheating issues, and Sony is reportedly working on a software update that would enable better heat management. More intensive thermal throttling, however, will likely reduce the handset's maximum performance.

In turn, reducing the Xperia Z3+/Z4's peak performance through thermal throttling could also mean that it would perform along the same lines as the Xperia Z3, if not worse in some instances.

An intriguing new video compares the synthetic benchmark results of the Xperia Z3+/Z4 and Xperia Z3, showing only slight improvements for the new iteration over its predecessor. In other instances such as loading times in real world performance, meanwhile, the Xperia Z3 manages to match and even outrun the latest Xperia Z3+/Xperia Z4. The video below is in Vietnamese but it will give you a good idea about the performance of these sibling smartphones.
