We've all been in that situation when you're sitting at home going stir crazy, itching to leave the house, but you have nothing set up with your friends. When all your close friends have previous plans, you're stuck scrolling through your contacts, considering which acquaintance you should hit up, but sending them a random message might be awkward.

No plans? This new app will solve the problem by showing you who is free to hang out.

The social messaging app, called Free, allows users to share their availability to easily coordinate and make plans with friends so that you can make the most out of their free time.

Once you download Free from the App Store, the app asks you to enter your number, register an account and provide your name, a username and your email address. You then can either take a photo (and add filters) or upload an existing one from your smartphone, Facebook or Twitter accounts. The last step is to then sync your contacts to share with friends when you are free.

With one swipe, you can let nearby friends know that you are available to go out, flexible or busy at that moment; however, you must enable location services for the app to work. You can also add a message, tag friends you are with and select a place and time. Once you set your first status, you can select which friends to send it to and which of your friends can see it and for how long.

If you miss the days of AIM, then this app is for you. A green dot next to a friend means they are Going Out, yellow represents they are Flexible and red means they're Busy. Tap on a status to message that friend, or a photo, GIF or one of the fun stickers included.

Friends can click on a status to join, say maybe or decline to hang out. They can also like your comment an infinite amount of times by tapping on it. Simply @-mention a friend to invite them to the convo.

The app displays your list of contacts, with the option of adding them to favorites. Click on your picture avatar to bring up your settings.

If your friends are not yet on the Free, tap on their name and tap "Invite to Free" to be able to send an automated text with a link.

There are so many social messaging apps out there, but Free cuts out the clutter to focus back on in-person communication.
