Following his highly successful Kickstarter campaign to bring "Shenmue 3" to the PlayStation 4, Yu Suzuki wants to raise at least $10 million to make the final chapter to his Shenmue saga a truly open world.

The original goal for the Kickstarter campaign was only $2 million, which it easily reached in only nine hours of it being launched during E3 at Los Angeles. With $5 million as one of the campaign's stretch goals, Suzuki said the game can include a "character's perspective system," something he always wanted the game to have.

But double that figure, in additon to the development support from Sony and additional outside funding from unnamed sources, than "Shenmue 3" can have the open world he always dreamed of.

Suzuki took to Reddit to answer some of the most pressing, and sometimes controversial, questions about the Kickstarter campaign. The Ask Me Anything (AMA) thread allowed the game's creator to address some of the questions that have been burning in fans' minds since the last Shenmue installment was released in 2001.

For one thing, Suzuki conirmed that the entire Shenmue saga comprises 11 chapters, a game detail he already revealed back in 2010. "Shenmue 2" comprised chapters 2 through 5, so the upcoming "Shenmue 3" is expected to deliver chapters 6 to an unknown point because Suzuki may want to add a fourth game to the saga to round up the series.

But the biggest news of all was Suzuki's cryptic remarks about the potential open world.

"I will say this: if we reach the $5 million mark, one of the things I really want to do with "Shenmue 3" will become a reality.  At $10 million, it will truly have the features of an open world," he said on his Reddit AMA.

With nearly $4 million raised so far and 25 days still to go in the Kickstarter campaign, there is still a good chance that we will see this Shenmue open world come to fruition.
