After what seems like decades, Marvel has finally come out and announced who will become the new Spider-Man and who will direct the July 2017 movie. It has been a long process, but now fans can rest easy.

The new actor is called Tom Holland, and from what we have seen during the past couple of weeks, he was rumored to be among the front-runners for quite some time. Recently, Holland released content on Twitter that gave the impression that he would get the part.

As for the director, Jon Watts will sit in the chair. Many fans may not know who he is, and rightfully so since he is virtually unknown. The only movie we know he has directed so far is Cop Car, a film that debuted earlier in the year at the Sundance Film Festival.

"It's a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that's why their results are so outstanding. I'm confident Spider-Man will be no exception," says Sony Pictures Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman. "I've worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom's screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start."

Marvel Studios leading man Kevin Feige had the following to say:

"As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life.  We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring."

Finding the right person for the job has been a tough task for both Marvel and Sony, but the most difficult aspect of this is to ensure that Jon Watts creates a solid film that fans will love for years to come.

The big question right now is whether or not Spider-Man will feature in Captain America: Civil War. We've heard rumors, yet nothing solid. However, since the actor has been cast and Civil War is still in production, there could be time yet.
