Every electric mile counts — and Tesla Motors can go ahead and flex all the muscle it wants to.

On Tuesday, Tesla took to its Twitter account to announce that its Model S owners/drivers have passed one billion electric miles (and counting). That's 570,000 tons of prevented carbon dioxide emissions from filling the air. The environment and ozone layer thank you, Tesla!

According to CNN Money, Tesla estimates that drivers reached the 500 million-mile plateau last July, before revving up to 700 million this past January and one billion Tuesday. Tesla credits the 300 million miles reached in six months due to the company's increase in sales of the Model S. Altogether, there are reportedly 76,000 Model S vehicles on the road worldwide.

Tesla tracks data from all of its drivers, and that's how it was able to calculate the number of total miles.

As if crossing the one billion-mile mark wasn't a big enough accomplishment, Tesla also learned Tuesday that its Model S holds the top resale value amongst all electric vehicles, proving Elon Musk's original assertion correct that the Model S would retain 50 percent of its value after three years. Yes, the Model S is more expensive, at upwards of $88,000, than any of its competition in the category and that has a lot to do with the top resale value, but No. 1 is No. 1.

The company's highly-anticipated Model 3 electric vehicle has been pushed back to a 2018 release. Let's see how fast its drivers get to a billion miles.
