Automaker Chevrolet has unveiled the official pictures and details for its brand new Camaro Convertible.

This sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro offers an advanced fully automated convertible top that can be remotely opened using the key fob or a single press of the overhead console button, even while traveling 30 miles per hour.

Powered by an electro-hydraulic power roof system, the top's design is composed of a multi-layered construct that includes thermal and acoustic barriers for a quiet, comfortable driving experience. When the top drops and folds, a hard tonneau cover automatically conceals the folded top to provide the same sleek appearance of its 2016 Camaro Coupe counterpart revealed in May.

Designed with a stiffer and lighter structure, the 2016 Camaro convertible shed around 200 pounds of the total vehicle weight of the last-generation Camaro. Available in LT and SS models, both the convertible and coupe have nimble reflexes and sharp chassis tuning.

Inside the convertible, one can see a driver-focused cabin integrated with an advanced control technology called Driver Mode Selector, as well as a configurable instrument collection and customizable ambient lighting.

Engine options for the 2016 Camaro convertible are technically the same as those of its sibling coupe, which include the 2.0-liter turbo rated at an SAE-certified 275 horsepower, the new 3.6-liter V-6 rated at an SAE-certified 335 horsepower, and the most powerful Camaro SS engine today, the LT1 6.2L V-8 rated at an SAE-certified 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet offers an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission on each engine.

"The 2016 Camaro Coupe will set the benchmark for the segment in terms of technology, performance and design. Adding the most sophisticated top in the segment brings another level of refinement—and driving enjoyment—to the Camaro Convertible," said Todd Christensen, Camaro marketing manager.

Chevrolet has not announced any official pricing for the 2016 Camaro convertible, but car dealers expect to retail this model in the U.S. in early 2016 and go head-to-head with its long-time rival, the Mustang.
