The second-generation Moto X Pure Edition is finally getting a taste of Android 5.1 Lollipop in the U.S., with the update rolling out now.

Motorola started soak tests for the first- and second-generation Moto X smartphones for Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrades in a number of markets. At the time, the company said that if everything went smoothly, the update will start rolling out shortly.

It now appears that the soak tests were successful, as Android 5.1 Lollipop is expanding its reach. The original Moto X launched back in 2013 started receiving the update late last week in select markets, while the 2nd generation Moto X released in 2014 started getting the treat a few days ago.

It is now the turn of the Moto X Pure Edition to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop goodies, as the update is now rolling out in the U.S.

"I am happy to announce that we have been approved to start full deployment of the Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade for Moto X (2nd Gen) Pure Edition in the US," Motorola's David Schuster boasts in a new announcement on his Google+ account.

The update weighs in at 440MB and will bring a number of neat changes and improvements to enhance the overall experience. Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring stability improvements, better control over notifications, usability enhancements, improvements to heads-up notifications, quick settings enhancements and more.

It's also worth highlighting that the Moto X Pure Edition will get Device Protection, which is one of the most touted features of Android 5.1. Device Protection is designed to ensure your device stays locked until you log in with your Google account credentials, even if someone else attempts a factory data reset. This way, the device remains protected in case you lose it or it gets stolen. Users need to have a Google account on the smartphone in order to automatically enable Device Protection and set a screen lock (password, PIN, pattern).

The Android 5.1 update will also bring a slew of bug fixes to the table, as well as several other improvements not listed here. For a full changelog of the update, head over to Motorola's website at this link.
