With a plethora of smartwatches flooding the wearable space, consumers are spoilt for choice. To make things easier (and lure consumers), retailer Newegg has slashed the price of Asus' ZenWatch.

Barely a few weeks after Asus unveiled the next-gen ZenWatch 2, the company's first-gen ZenWatch is seeing price cuts from retailers.

The rectangular-looking Android Wear-powered ZenWatch was released in November 2014 for $199 and with the arrival of its next iteration, the smartwatch is now available from Newegg for a 25 percent discount i.e. $149.

By comparison, the Play Store is offering the ZenWatch at its original price of $199. E-retailer Amazon, on the other hand, has also discounted the first-gen Asus smartwatch and is selling it for $185, which comes down to a savings of $14.

When compared to these offers, the Newegg price is quite a steal. However, the $149 for the Asus ZenWatch from the retailer is a limited period offer. Moreover, Newegg is also throwing in a $10 promotional gift card if you purchase the ZenWatch from the retailer during the offer period.

To refresh your memory, the Asus ZenWatch has a 1.6-inch AMOLED screen with a 320 x 320 pixels display. The 278ppi makes the wearable's display crisper when compared to LG's G Watch.

The smartwatch also packs in a Qualcomm 400 processor under the hood and the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 ensures that the ZenWatch is tough as steel.

The ZenWatch also packs in a 369 mAh battery which offers support for up to two days of usage.

Moreover, the Asus ZenWatch now runs on the latest Android Wear 5.1.1 thanks to the recent update it received. Thanks to the software update, the smartwatch's users now enjoy a variety of enhancements and new features such as always-on apps, new menu, Wi-Fi connectivity (for compatible devices), wrist gesture, usable lock screen and more.

So not only do you save $50 thanks to the Newegg offer on the Asus ZenWatch but you get a fantastic wearable to boot. Unless you're eyeing the next-gen ZenWatch 2 which hits the shelves soon, the Newegg deal is worth snapping up.

The device is available in three hues: Silver, Rose Gold and Brown.
