Motorola is offering a free red leather back cover to customers who purchase the second-generation Moto X. The deal is set to last for one week which shall start on July 1 and end on July 7.

This is the best time to take advantage of a great deal on the Moto X to allow users to save at least $25 on their purchase. Customers can buy directly from the Moto Maker official site where they can choose the red leather back option for their handset. Upon checking out, customers need to make sure that they chose the red leather back for their Moto X. The Cart Summary will confirm that the $25 discount has been applied to their purchase.

The Moto X is retailed beginning at $299.99. When customizing the handset's back cover, choosing the red leather back option would automatically change the price into $324.99. This can be easily seen on the right side of the page. The next step is clicking the "buy" button which appears in a blue rectangular shaped box.

Next, customers are asked to make three decisions, including choosing an unlocked SIM, choosing between a no-contract or two-year-contract phone, and decided to buy in-store. Customers should bear in mind that the current deal is for the unlocked SIM or no-contract option.  

Choosing the two-year contract option, which comes with the user's carrier choice, will cost $0.99 for the handset and $25 for the leather back cover. This means that the free deal is not applicable to those who are getting their device under a two-year contract. Once again, customers can view the discount upon checking out. Moto X fans will also be glad to know that along with the free red leather back offer, the handset has also received the Android 5.1 Lollipop update from Verizon. The news was recently announced on Tech Times that the carrier has released an OTA update to install the latest OS.

According to Verizon, the update will bring notable enhancements to the device's user interface. These include icons for the updated volume settings panel, additional pull-down controls and an increase to the swipe distance.

Other new features that are brought by the update include new interruption controls, a new bell icon to show the volume controls for notifications and a new factory reset protection.

Motorola's new offer ends on July 7 at 10:59 a.m. CT. The $25 discount is only for those who want to customize their handset with the red leather back option. Other leather back options such as black, natural, cognac and navy blue are still priced at $25 each.
