Did the Los Angeles Lakers mistake LaMarcus Aldridge for a screaming teenage girl?

The Lakers tweeted a cringeworthy shot of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, wearing an Aldridge Lakers' jersey backwards, as part of the franchise's failed social media attempt to land the All-Star power forward via free agency Tuesday night. How would Adam Levine ever help sway Aldridge's free-agency decision? What were they thinking?

The tweet was one of four embarrassing tweets deleted by the Lakers on Wednesday, according to Deadspin. The others included Lakers fans yelling "#LAtoLA", a shot of Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, walking in to meet with Aldridge with the "#LAtoLA" and a plead from Lakers president Jeanie Buss, asking fans to re-tweet "#LAtoLA." Enough of the LAtoLA hash-tag, already.

What a disastrous social media campaign. Aldridge was understandably underwhelmed by the Lakers' pitch to him, according to ESPN, saying their presentation put a precedence on off-the-court amenities and life in Los Angeles over basketball.

The Lakers deleted the four tweets and attempted the following damage control as an explanation why they were deleted.

"Per league source, Lakers' #LAtoLA tweets weren't deleted out of sheepishness, but rather by NBA request after other teams complained," one ESPN reporter explained. "Lakers, per same league source, cleared the #LAtoLA tweet plan with NBA legal dept beforehand. But still honored request to delete them."

Next time around, the Lakers may want to keep it on basketball more, Hollywood less.
