There seems to be a never-ending variety of craft beers to try — but have you ever had a beer created by Wil Wheaton himself?

Wheaton is something close to nerd royalty, so perhaps it isn't surprising that the Star Trek: The Next Generation actor partnered with San Diego-based Stone Brewing Co. for the third annual release of its geek-inspired w00tstout beer, just in time for San Diego Comic-Con.

The beer is a collaboration between Wheaton, Stone Brewing Co. CEO and co-founder Greg Koch and Fark.com creator Drew Curtis. Each brought their own unique flavors to this year's beer. Wheaton (as his name might give away), added malted wheat to the equation, Koch added plenty of hops and Curtis, hailing from Kentucky, brought rye, pecans and bourbon barrels used to age a portion of the beer to the table. You can find the beer at select stores and restaurants where Stone beers are sold.

As this beer is designed to celebrate geekdom and coincides with Comic-Con, it only seems fitting for a famous comic book artist to contribute to the beer as well. Stone Brewing Co. brought on Eisner-award winning artist Dave Johnson (best known for his work on 100 Bullets) to create the label for this year's w00tstout, with Stone Brewing Co. making a donation to The Hero Initiative at Johnson's request, in exchange for his artistic services. The Hero Initiative is a charity organization that provides retirement funds for golden age comic book artists.

What does this beer have to do with geeks, aside from those involved? Wheaton and the rest of the group explain in the video below.

"Being a geek is not about the thing that you love," Wheaton says. "It can be comic books, music, beer, cars, clothes, animals — whatever it is you are a geek about, it's not about that thing. It's about how you love that thing.

"I love being a geek for beer," he continues. "I love being a geek for video games. I love being a geek for fantasy and science fiction. I love meeting other people who are geeky about the things they love. It's nothing to be ashamed of."

Beer lovers can be geeks too. It's all about celebrating what you love with the other people who live it right along with you, and this beer sounds like the perfect way to help geeks nationwide celebrate.
