AT&T has rolled out another over-the-air update for Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge flagship smartphones. However, owners should not get their hopes up for an update to the operating system, as the package will not take their devices to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.

The update will change the build number for the two devices from OE2 to OF3, but will not update the operating system of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge to the latest version of Android from the current version of Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.

AT&T has started to roll out the update over the air for both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The size of the update for the Galaxy S6 is between 146MB and 236MB, while the size of the update for the Galaxy S6 Edge is just a bit larger, between 146MB and 237MB. Owners of these two smartphones should free up enough space in their devices to be able to download the updates, and should be connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.

According to the changelog for both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the update will enhance the Reactivation Lock and Find My Mobile features for the devices. In addition, the update will make improvements to the security of the Android operating system.

No further details were revealed by AT&T regarding the update.

The update should be going live for all AT&T owners using the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge across the United States soon.

AT&T is running behind in releasing an update to the operating system of the two flagship smartphones. In mid-June, T-Mobile released an update to take the operating system of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 under its network from Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. T-Mobile was followed by U.S. Cellular after just over a week in releasing the operating system update to the flagship devices, with Sprint doing the same in July but only taking the smartphones to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Samsung's Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop installed. After updating the devices to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, however, users complained of several issues with the smartphones, fueling demand for the operating system update to be released as soon as possible to fix the problems.
